Joseph Franz Weigl

Joseph Franz Weigl (* 1740, † 1820) was principal cellist in the orchestra of the Esterházy family.

He played under the baton of Joseph Haydn, and it is believed that Haydn Cello Concerto in C major ( Hob VIIb / 1) wrote for him. His son Joseph Weigl was a composer and conductor.

According to the autobiography of the musician Martin Vogt (1781-1854), he received the 1800 free cello lessons from Joseph Franz Weigl. After a short time both stepped up and played duets in Klosterneuburg and other places.
