Cellou Dalein Diallo

Cellou Dalein Diallo ( born February 3, 1952 in Dalein ) was from December 2004 to April 2006 Prime Minister of Guinea.

Political career

Diallo comes from Dalein in the prefecture Labé in the center of the country. He studied economics at the University of Conakry and later in Paris. Since 1976 he has been in government service and worked for the Central Bank of Guinea from 1985 to 1995.

In July 1996 he was appointed by the ruling since 1984, President Lansana Conté in his cabinet. He was minister for transport, telecommunications and tourism, and from 1997 for Transport and Public Works. Since February 2004, he was Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. On 9 December 2004 he was appointed prime minister after the office had been vacant since April because his predecessor had gone into exile.

Problems of his tenure were protests about the poor economy and the high rate of inflation and the declining health of the President. A critical report on him in November 2005 led to the imprisonment of a newspaper publisher. Background were allegations of corruption, the Prime Minister should have adopted from a telephone company in exchange for the grant of a license money. Diallo was released on April 5, 2006 by Conté from office.
