Celso Golmayo Zúpide

Celso Golmayo y Zúpide (* April 24, 1820 in Logroño, † April 1, 1898 in Havana ) was a Spanish -Cuban chess master.

Golmayo played 1864 in Havana several games against Paul Morphy, including Blind lots and lots Default ( Morphy was a Springer front ), in which the sum Golmayo won 3-2. 1867 Golmayo lost a match against Gustav Neumann in Paris with 0:3; Golmayo played numerous competitions in Havana: He defeated Wilhelm Steinitz in two competitions 2:9 in 1883 and 0:5 in 1888 against Andrés Clemente Vázquez Two Matche. 7:0 and 7:4 ( in the years 1887 and 1890 ) he won three competitions with George Henry Mackenzie 3: 6 and 0.5: 5.5 in 1887, and 4.5: 7.5 in 1888, he lost. In 1891, he lost against Joseph Henry Blackburne 4: 6 and in 1893 against Emanuel Lasker with 0.5: 2.5.

Its highest historical Elo ( 2612 ) he reached the age of 74 years.

Celso Golmayo y Zúpide was the father of Celso Golmayo y de la Torri duck and Manuel Golmayo y de la Torri duck.
