History

The Center for Technology Assessment became operational in 1992. Due to various parliamentary interventions, the Federal Council mandated the Swiss Science Council to establish a Swiss System for Technology Assessment (TA ) during an initial pilot phase of four years ( 1992-1995).

In the message, on the promotion of education, research and technology in the years 1996-1999, the Federal Council lays the foundations for institutional stability and the financing of the TA in Switzerland. In 1999, the TA is enshrined in law in the Research Act. The Federal Council thus secured the independence of the Center for Technology Assessment, which was affiliated to the Swiss Science and Technology Council until 2007.

A change in law research laid the legal basis for the inclusion of the TA -SWISS mandate in the Association of Academies of Sciences and Switzerland. TA -SWISS is now January 1, 2008, a competence center of the Academies of Sciences Switzerland.

TA -SWISS is a member of the European Parliamentary Technology Assessment and the network technology assessment ( NTA)
