Centro Nacional de Inteligencia

The Centro Nacional de Inteligencia (CNI; German National message service center ) is the Spanish secret service which was launched in November by law in 2002. Previously, the unit was known as the Centro Superior de Información de la Defensa ( CESID ).

The main goal of CNI is to the government to provide them with the information necessary to ward off risks and threats to the independence or integrity of Spain. Equally important are the national interests and the stability of the rule of law.

It is laid down by law, that the targets are determined annually and reviewed by the Council of Ministers. These are then recorded in writing in the secret information directive.

Apart from this controlling body still exists a judicial review. The activities of the CNI are of a judge, by the Consejo General del Poder Judicial ( this is occupied by the President of the Constitutional Court ) is determined checked.
