Ceolwald of Mercia

Ceolwald to have been in the year 716 for a short time King of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia.

After the death of King Ceolreds a Ceolwald shall have made (or Ceolwold ) claims to the throne argued. This is mentioned in Manuscript B and C manuscript of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and in a version of the so-called Worcester Regnal List.

However, it seems unlikely that there has ever been this Ceolwald, and even if his grip after the rule was successful, he may have ruled only shortest time when all sources date the throne Æthelbalds in the year 716.
