Cereus hildmannianus is a flowering plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors the German Heinrich Hildmann cactus grower, who owned a cactus nursery in Birkenwerder.

Description

Cereus hildmannianus growing tree shaped, richly branched and reaches stature heights of up to 10 meters. It is formed a distinct tribe. The cylindrical, segmented, blue -green to dull green shoots are at the juvenile stage often Glauk. They have diameters of up to 15 centimeters. There are four to six sharp-edged ribs present, which are up to 3.5 inches high. The areoles located on it are small. Thorns are usually not formed.

The white flowers are 25 to 30 inches long. The spherical fruits are colored red to yellow. They contain a white pulp.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Cereus hildmannianus is probably widespread in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Argentina. The first description was published in 1890 by Karl Moritz Schumann.

We distinguish the following sub- types:

  • Cereus hildmannianus subsp. hildmannianus
  • Cereus hildmannianus subsp. uruguayanus

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, than not led at risk. The subspecies were not recorded separately.
