Cetina canyon off Omis

The Cetina ( dt: Zetina ) is a river in Croatia. He is one of the big three rivers in the historic region of Dalmatia. The Cetina springs from a 115 m deep karst spring in the Dinaric Alps near the village of Cetina and forms in the middle reaches near Sinj a wetland. Finally, the Cetina flows 105 km in Omis ( Almissa ) into the Adriatic Sea.

For thousands of years designed the Cetina canyon and created a wondrous shapes in the stone of the riverbed. The crystal clear water, up to 180 m high cliffs, waterfalls, lakes, underground tunnel and the 40 m high waterfall Gubavica ( Vrlika ) provide a pleasure of unspoiled nature.

At the upper reaches of the river Cetina is the peruca Reservoir ( Perućko Jezero ), which is used for water supply and power generation.

In the lower reaches of the river, the area Poljica lies.

At the Cetina created in 1965, most of the shots that the climax of the Karl-May- film form The Prince with the oil then shooting raft.

During the military operation Storm 1995 Serbian terrorists tried to blow up the brimming dam of Peručko Lake. The dam was doing considerable damage, but it did not come to a complete dam failure, otherwise the entire lower course of the river Cetina, together with the towns of Sinj and Omis would probably have been destroyed.
