Chakosi people

The Anufo are an ethnic group in Togo, Benin and Ghana, which is also called Chokosi, Chakosi, Kyokosi, Tchokossi or Tiokossi.

In Togo, 57800-64000 people of this ethnic group live. Of them live about 66000-70000 people in Ghana. In Benin this ethnic group are given in the sources 13800-17000 relatives. The language spoken by them is called Anufo.

The ANufo once had their own state, the monarchy Tschokossi.

The Anufo live mainly in the savanna country on the border between Togo and Ghana. The Anufo essentially belong to the Islam, eta 10% are Christians, another segment of the population is followers of traditional religions.
