Chalit Pukbhasuk

Chalit Pukbhasuk ( alternative spellings: Pukpasuk, Pookpasuk; Thai: ช ลิต พุก ผาสุก, RTGS: Chalit Phukphasuk; pronunciation: [ p ʰ UKP Alit t͡ɕ ʰ ʰ ː ă Suk ]; born April 5, 1948) is a Thai air force general. From 2005 to 2008 he was the commander of the Royal Thai Air Force. At the same time he was since 1 October 2007 Chairman of the Council for National Security, the junta that held state power after the coup of 19 September 2006 until the elections in January 2008. Since 2011 he is a member of the Privy Council.

Biography

Chalit was born on 5 April 1948. He is with Phornthip Pukbhasuk ( Thai: ผศ.ดร. พร ทิพย์ พุก ผาสุข ) married, which was at the Chulalongkorn University until her retirement literature professor. They have two daughters.

Chalit graduated from the Academy of the Thai air force, and afterwards held several key positions in the Air Force. It was in September 2005, the Supreme Commander of the Air Force, as the successor of Chalerm Chumchuensuk who had held the office wearing only provisionally, after General Kongsak Wantana had resigned in July to become interior minister in the government of Thaksin Shinawatra. The king appointed Chalit and not the General first proposed by the Cabinet Raden Puengpak against which there were allegations of corruption. Supposedly the Kronratspräsident Prem Tinsulanonda have prevented the appointment Radens.

First Chalit was reportedly reluctant to support the 2006 coup. Troops of the Air Force had not participated in the coup and army units marched in front of the command of the Air Force to urge their commander to attend and to prevent the Luftwaffe could resist the coup. Ultimately, he was but vice chairman of the National Security Council under General Sonthi Boonyaratglin. On 1 October 2007 Chalit was then, after Sonthi had announced his resignation, appointed Chairman of the Council for National Security.

In addition Chalit was from November 2006 to February 2008 Chairman of the Board of Directors ( Board of Directors) of Thai Airways International. He resigned after the formation of the elected government of Samak Sundaravej and the dissolution of the Council for National Security to the new government, which controls 51 % of the shares of THAI to allow the appointment of a new chairman. His successor was Chaisawasd Kittipornpaiboon. In September 2008, he was replaced as Air Force Chief of General Itthaporn Subhawong.

In 2011 he was appointed to the Privy Council of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
