Chalupa (boat)

A sloop is a small, resembling a cutter sailboat with one or ( rarely) two masts, which is often used as a larger dinghy. Such tenders could be armed for landing operations with a mittelkalibrigen gun and were then used as Kanonenschaluppe (French chaloupe cannonière ) refers. The term " sloop " is also used in inexact manner equivalent to the warship type Sloop Sloop type ship or trade.

The term comes from the French language ( chaloupe as a designation for the largest tender of a ship ). Previously, as well as the larger, more simple boats of coastal shipping were named. The name probably originates from the Flemish term for a Dutch ship ( sloep ) in connection with sluipen, which means as much as glide slip.

  • Chaloupe the French Navy (ca. 1770)
