Champion Township is a township in Marquette County in the state of Michigan.

Geography

Champion Township has a total area of ​​323.7 km ², of which 313.2 km ² land area and 10.5 km ² ( 3.23% ) of water. The municipality is located in a small valley near the eastern end of Lake Michigamme in the north -central part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Located about 30 miles west of Marquette on U.S. Highway 41 and Michigan State Route 28, the small, quiet village in the late 1800s and early 1900s was a bustling iron mining settlement of 2500 inhabitants.

Demography

In the municipality there were in 2010 297 inhabitants, 126 households, and 91 families. The population density was 0.9 inhabitants / km ². The ethnic composition of the community is made up 99.33 % White and 0.67 % African American. 29.4 % were of Finnish, 18.6% French, 11.7% German, 11.3% Canadian, 7.8% Polish and 5.2% English ancestry.
