Marquette County (Michigan)

Marquette County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marquette.

Geography

The County is located in the north of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, adjacent to Lake Superior, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​8871 square kilometers, of which 4155 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Alger County, Delta County, Menominee County, Dickinson County, Iron County, Baraga County and on Lake Superior in the Keweenaw County.

History

Marquette County was formed in 1843 from parts of Chippewa County and Mackinac County. It was named, as well as the district capital, according to Pere Jacques Marquette, a French Jesuit missionary.
