Arenac County, Michigan

Arenac County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Standish.

Geography

The County is located in the central north east of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the east by Lake Huron, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of 1763 square kilometers, of which 813 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Iosco County, Bay County, Gladwin County and Ogemaw County.

History

Arenac County was founded in 1831 as an original county of free territory. In 1857 it went on in Bay County and in 1883 again independently. It was named by Henry Schoolcraft for a word from the Indian language.
