Charlevoix County, Michigan

Charlevoix County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Charlevoix.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme north of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the east by Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​3602 square kilometers, of which 2522 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Emmet County, Cheboygan County, Otsego County, Antrim County and on Lake Michigan in Leelanau County, Schoolcraft County and Mackinac County.

History

Charlevoix County was formed in 1869 from parts of the Antrim County, Emmet County and Otsego County. It was named after Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix, a French Jesuit missionary.
