Crawford County (Michigan)

Crawford County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Grayling.

Geography

The County is located in the central northern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of ​​1459 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Otsego County, Oscoda County, Roscommon County and Kalkaska County.

History

Crawford County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County and the free territory as Shawano County. In 1843 it was renamed into the current name. It was named after the Fort Crawford, Wisconsin, which was named after the politician William H. Crawford.
