Alcona County, Michigan

Alcona County is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Harrisville.

Geography

The County is located in the northeast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the east by Lake Huron, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​4637 square kilometers, of which 2891 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Iosco County, Oscoda County and Alpena County. Belonging is the Hubbard Lake.

History

Alcona County was formed in 1869 as an original county of free territory. Between 1840 and 1843, the boundaries were defined as Negwegon County, a management of the site was not. It was named by Henry Schoolcraft for a word from the Indian language.
