Branch County, Michigan

Branch County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Coldwater.

Geography

The County is located in the south of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, adjacent to Indiana and has an area of 1345 square kilometers, of which 31 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Calhoun County, Hillsdale County and St. Joseph County.

History

Branch County was formed in 1829 as an original county of free territory. It was named after John Branch, a U.S. Secretary of War. The county is one of the so-called Cabinet counties since it was like some other named after a member of the cabinet of U.S. President Andrew Jackson.
