Luce County, Michigan

Luce County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Newberry.

Geography

The County is located in the northeast of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, bounded on the north by Lake Superior, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​4952 square kilometers, of which 2613 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Chippewa County, Mackinac County, Schoolcraft County and Alger County.

History

Luce County was formed in 1887 from parts of Chippewa County and Mackinac County. It was named after Cyrus G. Luce, a governor of Michigan.
