Isabella County, Michigan

Isabella County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Pleasant.

Geography

The County is located almost in the center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1496 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Midland County, Gratiot County, Montcalm County, Mecosta County and Clare County.

History

Isabella County was formed in 1831 from parts of Mackinac County and free territory. It was named after Isabella I, Queen of Castile, the patron of Christopher Columbus.

According to an official estimate in 2006, there were 65 818 people in 22 425 households, and 13,006 families. The population density was 43 people per square kilometer.
