Hillsdale County, Michigan

Hillsdale County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hillsdale.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme south of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the south by Ohio, with the southwestern corner of Indiana and has an area of 1572 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jackson County, Lenawee County, Branch County and Calhoun County.

History

Hillsdale County was formed in 1829 as an original county of free territory. It was named for the hilly country in which the county is located.
