Livingston County (Michigan)
The Livingston County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Howell.
The Livingston County is a part of Metro Detroit, the metropolitan region around the city of Detroit.
Geography
The County is located in the central south-east of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1516 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Livingston County was formed in 1836 from parts of Shiawassee County and Washtenaw County. It was named after Edward Livingston (1764-1836), a former U.S. Secretary of State.
The county is one of the so-called Cabinet counties since it was like some other named after a member of the cabinet of U.S. President Andrew Jackson.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Livingston County 156 951 people in 55 384 households and 43 531 families. The population density was 107 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.13 percent White, 0.46 percent African American, 0.43 percent Native American, 0.57 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.32 percent from other races groups. 1.06 per cent were descended from two or more races. 1.24 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 55 384 households out of which 39.8 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 68.5 percent were married couples living together, 6.8 percent were single mothers and 21.4 percent were non-families. 17.1 percent of all households and 5.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size is 3.18 people.
28.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 6.6 percent 18 to 24 years 31.7 percent between 25 and 44, 24.6 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 8.3 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 99.7 males.
The median income for a household was $ 67,400, and the median income for a family $ 75,284. Males have a median income of $ 54,358, women $ 32,073. The per capita income was $ 28,069. 2.4 percent of families and 3.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
