Livingston County (Michigan)

The Livingston County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Howell.

The Livingston County is a part of Metro Detroit, the metropolitan region around the city of Detroit.

Geography

The County is located in the central south-east of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1516 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Livingston County was formed in 1836 from parts of Shiawassee County and Washtenaw County. It was named after Edward Livingston (1764-1836), a former U.S. Secretary of State.

The county is one of the so-called Cabinet counties since it was like some other named after a member of the cabinet of U.S. President Andrew Jackson.
