Genesee County (Michigan)

Genesee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Flint.

The County is located in the east of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1682 square kilometers, of which 25 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Genesee County was formed in 1835 from parts of Lapeer, Saginaw County and the Shiawassee County. It was named in New York, the former home of the first settlers in the area after the Genesee County.

The word Genesee comes from the language of the Seneca people and means something like Beautiful Valley.
