Chang Jiang (motorcycle)

Chang Jiang (Chinese长江/长江, Pinyin Changjiang, Long River ') is a Chinese motorcycle brand of Dong Tian Enterprise Co., Ltd.. in the province of Hangzhou ( People's Republic of China) with the models Changjiang 750 M1, Changjiang 750 M1M and Chang Jiang 750 M1S.

The products are a continuation of the Soviet motorcycles M72, which in turn are replicas of the BMW R 71. In many cases, they are with sidecar, a replica of the German Steib TR500, sold.

As part of the fraternal socialist assistance - and there already were successors - the production was passed by the Soviet Union to the People's Republic of China. The Chang Jiang is similar thus technically the older models of Russian manufacturers Dnepr and Ural. This also explains the interchangeability of a number of parts and assemblies, and others like gears, wheels and front suspension.

The Chang Jiang is available with 750 cc 2-cylinder SV Boxer engines that provide 18 kW (26 hp) at 4800 rpm and how they were very similar already used in the 1938 published BMW R 71 or in China developed with 34 hp OHV boxer engines. The SV engine is torquey, although relatively underpowered but due to the low torque and allows balanced scolded poor driving.

In the early 1990s, started modifying action the electrical components have been modernized with the help of German technicians. Here, a 12 volt alternator was mounted on the front for extended tailshaft according to the design at BMW 2- valve boxer engines. The space freed up on the Kurbelhäuse took since then, as with BMW boxer engine from the / 5 series, an electric starter on.

Furthermore, the importers of these machines have a solid build quality care, so that there is to be acquired Motorcycles much better than its reputation in the rule.

Over the years, Chang Jiang worked in Germany with changing importers together. From time to time ( the late 1990s ) new teams for less than 3500 DM were obtained, but also problems with the registration of these machines were known, as these European standards ( vA in terms of exhaust, noise and brakes ) are not or hardly met.

If today (2011) decides to buy such a vehicle, there is next to the second-hand purchase other ways: Some companies, such as Swiss motorcycle expert Fritz Egli, or Lehnstedter team builder Warnke deal with the import and the improvement of China's machinery for European requirements. Here are TÜV -capable motorcycles, often with a guarantee offered. On the other hand, Chang Jiang motorcycles of individuals are brought to Germany, which take over the hurdles of admission itself.

In Germany are often bikes with older construction, some offered from the 1950s. These machines are rebuilt as a rule in China. Mostly new mounting brackets are used up to the frame. By the date of the first registration of the early frame, there are some advantages in approval: - to Year 1962, for example, these motorcycles may be driven without blinkers and apply the respective emissions limits of the initial registration. You drive a classic car, which is rebuilt and for which there are from current production Spare Parts.

Motorcycles of this type will be built in China by various manufacturers / manufacturing plants, Chang Jiang is the most famous brand in Europe only for these vehicles and is used here interchangeably.
