Changing Places

Change of location ( engl. Changing Places ) is a campus novel by the British author David Lodge.

He appeared in the original English in 1975 and 1986 in the German translation by Renate Orth - Guttmann.

The action takes place in 1969. Lodge processed here in a humorous way, various contemporary issues such as the student movement, the emancipation of women, the free love, etc. between the universities of imaginary cities Rummidge (GB) and Euphoria (USA) has long had an exchange program. Each year, visited a professor of a university to another. In 1969, these are Phillip Swallow and Morris Zapp. During their stay, these two characters find each one in the roles of others, which includes links to the respective spouses. The novel reflects stereotypical images of the USA and Great Britain and their education systems and combines different ways to write a novel in a book. Thus, the third chapter is written about in the form of an epistolary novel and the sixth as a film script, while the fourth consists only of fictional newspaper articles.

Lodge wrote a sequel in 1984: Small World: An Academic Romance (English scavenger hunt or Small world: an academic romance ), in the Swallow and Zapp resurface.
