Charge carrier

A charge carrier in the physics -affected with a charge particles, in this case one usually refers to the electrical charge.

In semiconductor physics, is meant by charge carriers moving electrons and holes, being movable to be understood in the sense of a charge transport, ie a stream. A positive hole is missing in the entirety of the valence electron, which acts as a movable positive elementary charge. Holes are therefore also referred to simply as "holes".

But also ions, electrical charge carriers, e.g., in the electrolysis, in a plasma or particle (see also ion radiation). Also, some quasi-particles and quarks carry electric charge.
