Charles A. Ellwood

Charles Abram Ellwood ( born January 20, 1873 in New York City; † September 25, 1946 ) was an American sociologist and 14th president of the American Sociological Association.

Ellwood first studied at Cornell University and then (after a study tour of Europe) at the University of Chicago, where a sociology degree was already possible. It was the same place, 1899 Ph.D. doctorate. After a full-time employment for a charity in Lincoln (Nebraska ), he became a professor of sociology at the University of Missouri, where he taught for 30 years. Then he moved to the Duke University.

Ellwood was one of the leading sociologists in the United States and covered in research, teaching and publications, a wide range of topics. In 1924, he served as president of the American Sociological Association.
