Charles & Eddie

Charles & Eddie was a U.S. Soulduo from New York.

Charles Pettigrew had studied jazz singing in Boston and played with a band called Down Avenue. In the early 1990s he met in New York Eddie Chacon, and they decided from their common love for soul music a duo à la to make Sam and Dave. Their first single " Would I Lie to You" in 1992, a worldwide hit, reaching No. 1 among others in Germany, Austria and the UK. In Switzerland, it reached # 2 in the U.S. and still finished 13th with the successor Singles NYC ( Can You Believe This City ), House Is Not a Home and 24-7-365 they could at least hold in Europe until 1995 in the Top 40 and the album Duophonic was a small success, but a big hit did not succeed more.

Then they parted again. Charles Pettigrew worked with artists such as Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz and joined in 1998 the Tom Tom Club at. He can be heard on their album The Good, the Bad and the Funky. Shortly thereafter, he became ill with cancer and died on 6 April 2001 at the age of 37 years.
