Charles F. Mitchell

Charles Franklin Mitchell ( born February 18, 1806 Bucks County, Pennsylvania, † September 27, 1865 in Cincinnati, Ohio ) was an American politician. Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Mitchell attended the public schools of his home in Pennsylvania. In 1829 he moved to Lockport, New York. There he worked among other things as a fireman or stoker. Since 1835, he worked in the mill business. Politically, Mitchell joined the founded in the 1830s Whig party. In the congressional elections of 1836, he became the 33rd electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Gideon Hard on March 4, 1837. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1841 two legislative sessions.

Towards the end of his tenure, he fell for fraud with the law in conflict. In 1841 he was sentenced to a prison term, he was benched in Sing Sing prison. Later he was pardoned for health reasons. He died on September 27, 1865 in Cincinnati.
