Charles Frederick Hartt

Charles Frederic Hartt ( born August 23, 1840 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, † March 18, 1878 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was a Canadian naturalist.

Hartt studied science at Acadia College, traveled as a student for the purpose of geological researches Nova Scotia, joined in 1861 as an employee in Agassiz ' natural history museum at Cambridge, then made several scientific trips to Brazil, was appointed in 1868 as professor of geology at Cornell University, died March 18, 1878 in Rio de Janeiro, which had become his second home.

The results of his geological exploration of New Brunswick form a part of John William Dawson's work Acadian geology. He also wrote Geology and physical geography of Brazil (1870 ) and numerous monographs in American and Brazilian magazines. Some left by him in manuscript important works were in 1880 not yet published.
