Charles Lederer

Charles Lederer ( born December 31, 1911 in New York City, New York, † 5 March 1976 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

Charles Lederer, nephew of actress Marion Davies, first worked as a journalist. Through the good offices of his friend Ben Hecht he found the film, where he worked as a dialogue writer. The participation in the smash hit comedy The Front Page paved the way for him to screenwriter. Although he wrote, often in collaboration with co-authors, highly successful screwball comedies such as His Girl Friday or favorite, I'm going younger, but also wrote screenplays in the film noir genre. His later films less attention, as well as occasional director works.

In 1949 he married actress Anne Shirley. The marriage lasted until his death. Together they had a child.
