Charles Maynard (Bahamian politician)

Charles Maynard (born 1970 in Nassau, Bahamas; † August 14, 2012 in North Abaco, Bahamas) was a politician of the Free National Movement ( FNM) in the Bahamas.

Life

After the visit of the Queen's College Maynard graduated from the College of The Bahamas, which he completed in 1988. He then worked for a company in the field of agricultural development and took for this to extensive research on the viability of agriculture and animal husbandry in the Bahamas part. Later he worked for a hotel group and was responsible for the development of the Corner Hotel in Nassau in 2000. In the following years he became involved in the promotion of culture, the products and services company in the Bahamas and in various Junkanoo groups on Boxing Day, New Year and in the summer months perform annual musical parades in the Bahamas.

In the 2007 parliamentary elections Maynard was first elected as a candidate of the Free National Movement ( FNM ) for MPs in the House of Assembly and represented in this up to his death in the constituency Golden Isles.

Shortly after the election, he was appointed by Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham Minister of State in the Ministry of Education with responsibility for culture, before he was Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture was some time later. These functions he held until the defeat of the FNM at the polls on May 7, 2012. After the election, he succeeded Ingraham as Chairman of the FNM and leader of the opposition in Parliament.

On August 14, 2012, he participated together with the Secretary General of the FNM, Michael Foulkes, at a campaign event for a member of his party, who is a candidate for the vacant through resignation Ingraham seat in the House of Assembly in a by-election. During this event, the only 42 -year-old father of three Maynard died of a myocardial infarction.
