Charles Petty-Fitzmaurice, 9th Marquess of Lansdowne

Charles Maurice Petty - Fitzmaurice, 9th Marquess of Lansdowne LVO DL ( born February 21, 1941), 1944-1997 Earl of Shelburne, is a British peer and Vice - Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire.

Youth

He is the son of George Petty - FitzMaurice, 8th Marquess of Lansdowne, a former Conservative politician and Barbara, born Chase. His father inherited the title of nobility and Bowood House in Wiltshire by a cousin, the 7th Marquess of Lansdowne, which was dropped in 1944. Career

He served 1960-1961 in the Kenya Regiment. In 1962 he was transferred Second Lieutenant in the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry and 1971 he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant to the Royal Yeomanry Royal Armoured Corps when.

He was a member of the 1964-1973 Calne and Chippenham Rural District Council, 1965-1974 President of the Wiltshire Playing Fields Association, 1970-1985 Member of the Wiltshire County Council and 1973-76 Councillor of the North Wiltshire District Council. On the death of his father on 25 August 1997, he became Marquess of Lansdowne and deputy in the House of Lords. He was lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, shortly after he had been transferred at the Prince 's Council of the Duchy of Cornwall to retire in 2001.

Family
