Charles Quef

Charles Paul Flori Moon Quef ( born 1 November 1873 in Lille, † July 2, 1931 in Lille) was a French organist and composer.

Life

Quef was born in 1873 in Lille. He studied at the Conservatory of Lille then at the Paris Conservatoire under Ernest Guiraud, Théodore Dubois, Charles- Marie Widor and Alexandre Guilmant. In 1895 he graduated from the military service. He was organist at the church of Saint-Nicolas -des- Champs (1892 /93), Sainte -Marie des Batignolles ( 1895-1898 ) and Saint- Laurent (1898 /99). In 1898 he received the first prize of the Conservatory in organ. Finally, in 1901, he followed his teacher Alexandre Guilmant as titular organist of the Église de la Sainte- Trinité (Paris), where he had previously worked as assistant organist; he remained there until his death titular 1931.
