Charles Spielberger

Charles Donald Spielberger (* 1927) is a clinical psychologist who was known by its State - Trait Anxiety model.

Life

His PhD in psychology he in 1954 at the University of Iowa. In 1991 he was president of the American Psychological Association.

From 1972 to 2003 he was professor of psychology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, he is emeritus since 2003.

State - Trait Anxiety Model

The State / Trait Anxiety Inventory ( STAI ) was first published in 1970 by Spielberger, Gorsuch & Lushene and 1983 revised the current form.

The inventory is based on a 4-point Likert scale and represents a questionnaire method for detecting current and habitual fear
