Charles Thomas, Prince of Vaudémont

Charles Thomas de Lorraine - Vaudémont, KG, German Karl Thomas Prince of Lorraine Vaudémont ( born March 7, 1670 in Brussels, † May 12 1704 in Ostiglia, Italy) was Prince of Vaudémont and imperial field marshal.

Life

Charles Thomas was the only child of Prince Charles Henri de Lorraine - Vaudémont (1649-1723) and his wife Princess Anne -Elisabeth de Lorraine - Elbeuf. His paternal grandparents were the Duke Charles IV of Lorraine and Beatrix de Cusance.

Like his father, Charles Thomas served in the imperial army against France. In the War of Spanish Succession he fought in Italy under the command of Prince Eugene of Savoy. In 1700, he was knighted and recipient of the Order of the Golden Fleece. In the battles of Cremona and at New Ulm, he distinguished himself and was promoted along with Guido from Starhemberk to field marshal. In the battle of Ostiglia he was seriously injured on May 8, 1704 and died from his injuries four days later.
