Ostiglia

Ostiglia is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6845 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Mantua in Lombardy. The community is located about 29 kilometers southeast of Mantua on the Po.

History

The village changed its name Ostiglia in antiquity under the name Hostilia. Through the town was also the Via Claudia Augusta. In the Middle Ages and in modern times, different rulers ruled over the town ( including the Veronese and the Scaliger, finally, the Visconti and Gonzaga ). In 1717 the castle was razed. 1907 here Arnoldo Mondadori Editore, the corporation was founded.

Traffic

Ostiglia is a transportation hub: Here the Strada Statale 482 Alto Polesine meets Mantua coming to the Strada Statale 12 dell'Abetone e del Brenner from Verona to Bologna. The train station of Ostiglia is also on the railway line Verona -Bologna ( opened in 2008 ), the former station was served by the route of Treviso. Until 1934 there was a tram ride from Brescia via Mantua to Ostiglia.
