Porto Mantovano

Porto Mantua is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 16,231 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Mantua in Lombardy. The community is located about 5 kilometers north of Mantua above the Mincio and the Lake Superior and about 40 kilometers southwest of Verona.

History

862 AD, a place Portus de Mantua is first mentioned. The villages were during the Middle Ages under the rule of the royal family Gonzaga.

Porto Mantovano Located on the Strada Statale 62 of Mantua to Verona. South of the village runs the Strada Statale 236bis. On the rail network Porto Mantovano is connected with a railway station in Sant'Antonio ( Mantua ), which is served by trains of the railway line Verona - Mantua - Modena.
