Charles Vaurie

Charles Vaurie (* July 7, 1906 in Beaulieu- sur -Dordogne, France, † May 13 1975 in Reading, Pennsylvania) was an American dentist, ornithologist, zoologist and paleontologist. Its site of action was New York.

Life

From a young age drew Charles Vaurie in the United States. He studied dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed a training from a dentist. While working in a private dental practice in New York, he painted pictures of birds, which James Paul Chapin was from the American Museum of Natural History attention to him. Vaurie worked there from 1942 onwards in the ornithological section of the museum.

He wrote the 1948 publication A revision of the bird family Dicruridae in which he reported together with Ernst Mayr, on the evolution of drongos. His most important work, the publication series Systematic notes on Palearctic birds, brought him international recognition, and includes 53 issues.
