Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band
Charles Wright ( born 1940 in Clarksdale, Mississippi) & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band is a band that should be regarded as a pioneer of the radio from today's perspective. Although the band was already active in the 1960s, it became popular in the 1970s and had several top 20 R & B hits such as Do your Thing and Till You Get Enough. The best known, however, is the song "Express Yourself " from the year 1970., 1988 This song was heard by the group NWA, Eazy -E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube sampled on their album Straight Outta Compton.
The band's name contains a reference to the district of Watts to Los Angeles belonging. They even describe their sound as a " cross between Otis Redding and James Brown ."
