Charlie Harper (singer)

Charlie Harper ( born May 25, 1944 in London as David Charles Perez ) is a British musician, songwriter, producer and singer of the punk band UK Subs.

Life

At the foundation of UK Subs in 1976, the 32 -year-old Harper was already a veteran of the London rhythm and blues scene. However, he succeeded only now at the peak of the punk movement with UK Subs breakthrough as a professional musician and he could give up his job in a hairdressing salon. Immediately prior to the establishment of UK Subs he was active as a founding member and frontman of The Marauders. After he was inspired by a performance by The Damned in Roxy Club, Harper founded the punk band UK Subs. But later he has experimented with his band and as a solo artist with other genres, such as the New Wave and Metal.

Around 1980 launched Charlie Harper, parallel to its ongoing work with UK Subs, his solo career. Between 1980 and 1983 he released two singles and one studio album.

In 1983, Harper along with Ian Knox Carnochan of the band The Vibrators Urban Dogs, which brought out the eponymous album, among others. By 1986, Harper was next to his commitment to UK Subs also with Urban Dogs actively engaged. The project then rested, but was repeatedly reactivated in the 1990s he and Knox, but only for occasional performances and recordings.

1991 Harper worked as a guest musician in the production of Learning English Lesson One with, a studio album by the German rock band Die Toten Hosen in collaboration with artists whose pieces were replayed on the album.

In UK Subs Harper plays alongside the vocals and the harmonica, writes the lyrics and composes the songs and plays occasional guitar or bass. In addition, he is active as a producer.

Charlie Harper is one of the oldest active punk musician and one of the most rock musicians with the most stage performances. For decades, he came every year to up to 200 live performances and on his extensive touring with UK Subs also routinely involved in numerous German cities. He now occurs much less frequently.
