Charlotte Montagu Douglas Scott, Duchess of Buccleuch

Charlotte Anne Montagu -Douglas -Scott, Duchess of Buccleuch, born Lady Charlotte Thynne ( born April 10, 1811 in Longleat House, Wiltshire, † March 18, 1895 at Castle Ditton Park, Buckinghamshire ) was the wife of Walter Montagu -Douglas -Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch, 7th Duke of Queensberry.

Life

Charlotte was the daughter of Thomas Thynne, 2nd Marquess of Bath ( 1765-1837 ), and the Hon Isabella Elizabeth Byng ( 1773-1830 ).

After over ten years of waiting she was finally allowed to convert to the Roman Catholic Church. She served from September 1841 to July 1846 as Mistress of the Robes to Queen Victoria.

Charlotte married on August 13, 1829 in the St. George's Church ( Hanover Square ) in the City of Westminster ( London) Walter Montagu -Douglas -Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch, 7th Duke of Queensberry ( 1806-1884 ), son of Charles Montagu -Scott, 4th Duke of Buccleuch, 6th Duke of Queensberry ( 1772-1819 ) and the Hon Harriet Katherine Townshend.

She was buried in St. Mary 's Chapel in Dalkeith ( Midlothian, Scotland). She was "Lady" of the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert.
