Charlotte Waters, Northern Territory

Charlotte Waters in the Northern Territory from 1872 was a relay station of the Trans- Australian telegraph line and near the border of South Australia. Charlotte Waters was named after Charlotte Bacon.

The site was created in 1871 during the construction of the telegraph line. 1872, a relay station, a post office, merchandise shop and residence were built.

The most remote place in the Simpson Desert is located in an area, which consists of desert pavement without trees and bushes. He had in early Australia importance as an end or starting point of expeditions, for example, Ernest Giles and Peter Warburton.

The relay station was abandoned when it was no longer needed by the introduction of new technologies. Later, the building of a police station served. Today only ruins exist.
