Chasan

Chasan is a white grape variety. It is a new breed between varieties Listán ( Palomino ) x Chardonnay. The crossing was made by the French ampelographers Paul Truel at the Domaine de Vassal, a branch of the Institut National de la Recherche en Agronomy of the University of Montpellier. The name Chasan is made up of word parts of his parents. The early maturing variety ( 3 - 4 days after Chasselas ) since 1981 with the exception of Alsace in France permitted, but grown only on a small scale in the region of Languedoc -Roussillon in the Aude department, after which the variety 1980s in the was years with a stocked areas of 1,054 hectares quite successful. The high-yielding variety produces slightly aromatic wines with moderate alcohol content. However, the white wine lacks the acid necessary to develop a certain elegance. In addition, the wine tends to premature oxidation and should be drunk very soon after removal.

For commercial cultivation in France, the clone 538 is approved.
