Château d'Ambleville

The castle in Ambleville, a municipality in the department of Val- d'Oise in the French region of Ile- de -France, was built in the early 16th century. Since 1926, the castle stands as a monument historique on the list of monuments in France. It is located around 65 kilometers north- west of Paris.

History and Description

The castle was the beginning of the 16th century on the site of a fortress (proven since the 11th century ), whose defended the border with Normandy. The architect Jean Grappin created this building for Louis de Mornay.

In the 18th century the castle was rebuilt in the style of classicism. In 1893 it was bought by the rich art dealer Charles Sedelmeyer and had it restored at great expense.

Behind the castle was the Marquise de Villefranche, the new owner, invest 1928 a terraced park in the Italian style.
