Château de Cordès

The Cordès Castle ( Château de Cordès French ) is located in the municipality Orcival in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Région Auvergne. It stands as a monument historique a historical monument since July 1926.

In 1268 the former castle was the property of William of Chalus (French Guillaume de Chalus ). Nearly 400 years they remained in the possession of his family. In 1659 the plant was sold to Emmanuel d' Alègre. His son, Yves d' Alègre, marquis de Tourzel, Marshal of France in 1724. Under his rule, the buildings have been renovated and upgraded to the castle and received its present appearance. The garden was designed in 1695 by André Le Nôtre. As the chief architect of Louis XIV garden he designed the style of the French baroque garden.

Castle Cordès is the scene of the novel Le démon de midi by Paul Bourget from the year 1914.
