Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker

Château Marquis d' Alesme -Becker is a French winery in the Margaux appellation, on the Médoc peninsula. With 16 hectares of vineyards, it is a comparatively small estate, within the framework of the Bordeaux wine classification in 1855 received the rank of 3ième Grand Cru.

The first vineyards were created in 1585 by Marquis d' Alesme; first wines were brought proven in 1616 on the market. Only in 1859 was a country house in the style of Louis XIII. built that is in near Château Margaux and is surrounded by a beautiful park. After numerous acquisitions it came into the possession of the English family WH Chaplin. This sold it together with the Château Malescot Saint -Exupéry in 1955 to the family of Zug. The two items were also operated together until 1979.

The winery Château Marquis d' Alesme -Becker was headed until 2006 by Jean -Claude Block. He sold the vineyards on June 22, 2006 to Herbert Perrodo. Château Malescot Saint -Exupéry is headed by Roger Zuger.

The vineyards in Soussans and Margaux are planted with 45% of Merlot, 30 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 % Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. After fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks the wine to age for twelve months in barriques, which are renewed annually to a third. Approximately 100,000 bottles are marketed each year. In addition there are about 20,000 bottles of wine a second Marquis d' Alesme.
