Château Olivier

The Château Olivier is a 220 -hectare Bordeaux wine estate in the French community Léognan in the Gironde in France. The red and white wine is classified as AOC Pessac -Léognan in Graves. The winery is owned by the Bordeaux family Bethmann and is managed by Jean -Jacques de Bethmann.

History

The history of this magnificent château dates back to the Middle Ages. In the later 15th century it was owned by a local nobleman named Rostand d' Olivey. The Black Prince was said to be at the castle as a guest, as Bertrand du Guesclin. After numerous changes of ownership, it belongs to be the beginning of the 20th century, the de Bethmann family has entrusted her estate in recent years, led by Laurent Lebrun. The terrain

Over the past years, the Château Olivier has made considerable investments. A very special geological survey has found new potential on the site; and new plantings have made it possible to restore their reputation of the 18th century the estate after the properties have been removed, rendered the worst quality. The vineyard of 55 acres (45 ha Red, White 10 ha ) consists of compact gravel, heavy marl, marl and limestone from the Miocene. The cultivated varieties of red wines are 45% Merlot, 45 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 10 % Cabernet Franc. That the whites is 55 % Semillon, 40 % Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle. The average age of the vines is 20 years for red and 30 years for whites. They are planted at high densities in the range of 7000 to 10,000 plants / ha.

In 2008 joined next to Château Olivier still 16 wineries of Bordeaux, including such well-known as Château d' Yquem, Château Suduiraut and Château La Tour Blanche in a joint project together with the aim to retighten own clones of the vine Sémillon scarcer werdendem vine material.
