Châteaufort, Yvelines

Château Fort is a commune with 1415 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Yvelines department in the Île- de -France region; it belongs to the district of the canton of Versailles and Versailles -Sud.

Geography

Château Fort is located on the eastern edge of the department, 20 kilometers southwest of Paris city center. The district includes parts of the Plateau de Saclay and the Chevreuse Valley Regional Nature Park and belongs to haute vallée de Chevreuse.

Neighboring communities of Château Fort is Buc and Toussus -le -Noble in the Northeast, Villiers -le- Bâcle in the Southeast, Saint- Rémy -lès- Chevreuse in the south, Magny -les- Hameau in the south and west, and Guyancourt in the north.

History

The community owes its name to a medieval castle (French Château fort ). Lords of Château Fort de Montlhery Gui were in the 11th century, and later his son Hugues de Montlhery, the Großseneschall of France, King Louis VI. possession taken away. On August 20, 1913 Adolphe Pégoud succeeded over the airfield of Château fort of the first parachute jump.
