Châtelaillon-Plage

Châtelaillon -Plage is a municipality and a seaside resort with 5983 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) on the French Atlantic coast.

History

On the hill of Vieux Châtelaillon there in the Nécropole des Sables from the Gallo -Roman period and the time of the Christianization of various grave finds which testify to the long settlement history of this place.

In the 12th century the attachment Allionis Castrum was built on the Pointe du Cornard, which was the center of power at that time Aunis. Today there is this attachment no longer the slightest trace, since it was flooded by the sea. Thus in the 17th century remained only a small hamlet with small farms and a few fishermen's huts.

In the district of Les Boucholeurs are still some old farm and used for oyster farming buildings from the period before the 19th century.

Only towards the end of the 19th century, the place of the French railway was systematically expanded to bathing station with direct trains from Paris to Châtelaillon -Plage. This triggered on the coast of the construction of a variety of villas in the style of the turn of the century. Today they form a colorful mix of styles, since the owners usually resorted in establishing their villas on the architectural styles of their home regions.

Demographics

Population growth declined slightly until the early 90s into it. A large-scale revitalization program of the place, which led to the heaping up of a new 3 km long sandy beach in 1989 then brought the turnaround. Since then, the population figures rise again continuously:
